Exceptional Care After You Have A Baby

There are so many options for pregnant women to prepare for birth – prenatal fitness, childbirth education, preparing a birth plan with the help of your labor doula – but birth is only the beginning. So much emphasis is placed on the birth and often the postpartum time is neglected. Many new families have a great experience in birth and then wonder what’s next.

The first few months for many may include loads of dirty diapers, little to no sleep, feeding baby around the clock, dirty dishes piling up in the sink, and an overflowing laundry basket. But it doesn’t have to be like that.

Imagine this instead:

You’ve just had a baby and you return back to your home for the first time. As you settle in, your postpartum doula arrives.

While you focus on loving on your baby, your postpartum doula is making you a delicious home-cooked meal. She brings it to you along with a tall glass of water and holds your baby and talks with you, answering your questions, while you eat. When you are done eating, you feed your baby while your postpartum doula cleans up the dishes and your kitchen.

After the dishes are clean and you are done feeding your baby, she changes your baby’s diaper and gets the baby down for a nap while you grab a quick shower. After your shower, you decide you want to take a nap as well, so your doula works on laundry while you get some sleep.

You and your baby wake up, your doula brings you the snack she made you while you were sleeping and you feed your baby again, recalling and sharing your birth story with her.

When it is time for your postpartum doula to leave for the day, you are rested, fed, showered, and the household chores are done. Luckily, she will be back tomorrow and you won’t have to worry about a thing.
